Steve Lickar

Surgery Center Manager

What brought you to Transform Weight Loss?

Interesting question!  I have worked with Dr. Peter Billing as his Surgery Center Manager for over 10 years and enjoyed every minute of it.  Several years ago and due to Covid, I took a break.  Dr. Billing reached out to me and asked if I was interested in helping open a new surgery center with him.  I jumped on the chance and so here I am, doing what I love to do!

What’s your specialty?

I have been a Registered Nurse for 40 years now.  I’ve delivered 26 babies in a small rural town in Oregon.  I’ve worked Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care as well as managed the health care in two of Oregon’s prisons.  Finally moving to the Seattle area where I met Dr. Billing and have, for the most part, been managing the surgery center(s) since.

What’s the biggest reward of your job?

I really enjoy what I do on several levels.  Seeing a patient return for just a visit to the surgery center and seeing them ecstatic over their weight loss is phenomenal.  Or, to see them no longer need some off the medications they were previously taking.  From the standpoint of my role, seeing our staff work together for one goal and that is, providing personal care that is catered to each and every patient.  This is something that cannot be done in hospital settings.  Finally, saving our patients a lot of money based on cost and charges from the hospital environment.

What would surprise people about you?

Probably delivering those babies.  However, I also have my private pilot’s license!

How do you like to spend your spare time?

I’m told I have too many hobbies. In late summer and early fall, I work at a winery, developing and maturing the next year’s wines (primarily reds). Then, I move on to curing my own bacon, hams, and charcuteries. Some of the charcuteries take several months!
